Ikean ihmeitä

Kävin eilen Ikeassa käyskentelemässä siinä toivossa, että löytäisin jotain hyödyllistä, joka ei vie liikaa tilaa matkalaukusta.

Koska joka puolella on toitotettu yliopistomajoituksen säilytys- ja ripustusmahdollisuuksien vähyyttä, päädyin ostamaan kaksi oveen ripustettavaa naulakkoa. Paljon muutakin kivaa olisi löytänyt, mutta suurin osa kaikesta kivasta oli "ei mahdu matkalaukkuun/painaa ainakin tonnin"-osastoa, joten tyydyin naulakoiden lisäksi ostamaan vain korkkiruuvin - todellinen must have, jolle todennäköisesti riittää käyttöä heti saapumispäivänä.

ARGH typerä Blogger ei halua olla yhteistyökykyinen, joten tähän jää nyt Huge Gap.

Selkeyden vuoksi kaikki raha on muunnettu punniksi. Käytetty kurssi on 1 GBP = 1.221 EUR / 1 EUR = 0.819 GBP

Menojen arviointi tässä vaiheessa on tosi vaikeaa, mutta mennään nyt tällä varovaisen optimistisella arviolla.

Kaikkien menojen jälkeen rahaa jää £4390,07, mikä tarkoittaa £487,79/kk.
Puhelimeen voi laskea £10/kk, ruokaan ja hygieniaan £150/kk. Kaikkeen muuhun jää siis hieman alle £330/kk.

Vaikka laskelma onkin tosi optimistinen, luulen silti, että hengissä selvitään, ja pahimmillaankin siihen "kaikkeen muuhun" jää reilusti yli satanen. Kaikkeahan ei kuitenkaan tarvi tuhlata (ai ei vai??) kun lähinnä lainarahalla elelee...
Ajattelin myös julkaista päivitettyä versiota budjetista sitä mukaa, kun todelliset kuukausittaiset kustannukset paljastuvat.

Vinkkejä viikoksi osa 1: pakkaaminen

Kolme viikkoa lähtöön. Kohta pitää jo tosissaan alkaa miettiä, että mitä sitä pakkaisi. Lähtöhurmiossa olen selaillut pakkausvinkkejä niin lehtien sivuilta kuin keskustelufoorumeiltakin. Tässä parhaita paloja.

• Condoms: Whatever your sexuality, your religion, your promises to your mum or your past pulling record, chances are you’ll be in a situation where condoms could be a lifesaver. Even if it’s just a balloon shortage during a water fight.
• Dry Shampoo. Look for brands such as Batiste, or if you're well off, Lee Stafford. (Just in case you don't have time for a shower before a lecture, or get up late! Alternatively a hat works fine and you can shower later!)
  
• Double duvet: If you’ve got enough duvet to cover two people, it’s more likely that it will be covering two people. QED.
  
• Alcohol. For the love of god take some wine and spirits and invite some neighbours over to make friends!!!
  
• shot glasses (can double up as egg cups if you're clever!)
• A lighter - whether you smoke or not, there will come a time when you'll need to set fire to something.
• A key chain. You WILL lose your keys, they cost a fortune to replace, so fasten them to your person at all times.
• cheap phone for the nights out - you're bound to lose your phone. Make sure it still has a camera though!

Freshers' weekin ohjelma

Eilen ilmoitettiin oman collegeni freshers' weekin ohjelma.

Saturday- Moving In. Campus Bar Crawl. Starting in Origins and going around all the Campus bars, ending in the Venue

Sunday- Moving In. Twistud Pub Quiz- Questions and 'interesting' games for you all. Great to team up with your flat mates. Lots of fun I promise!

Monday- Malibu Beach Party. Get your beach wear fancy dress on for yet another fun night. Glow sticks are a must!

Tuesday- Ruby Tuesdays. Origins famous indie/rock night. Continues all year. Get in early as it is guaranteed to be packed out!

Wednesday- Sports day. Whether you are a budding (insert good sportsperson here) or prefer a good old egg and spoon or sack race, you will all be catered for. A great day to get outside and blow away any hangovers or tiredness! Late Night Detention. School uniform fancy dress!! Go as mad as you want

Thursday- Darwin Student Committee present Live Music Society. Bands and singers will be performing all nght, ending with a DJ. Sit back and have a drink, or dancy your little hearts out!

Friday- Light V Dark. The 2 sides of Darwin will battle it out to see who is the ultimate champion!

Saturday- pre ball drinks in Origins before you head off to the ball!

Sunday- RELAX! Pub Quiz on in the evening...A great way to cure your Fresher's flu and come down after the best week of your lives!

Aika raisulta kuulostaa. Tämän lisäksi on vielä kaikille yhteisiä tapahtumia, ja kansainvälisillä opiskelijoilla vielä omiaan. Tiedossa siis tiukasti aikataulutettua ryyppäystä!
